Amsterdam – the capital city of the Netherlands – is small but packed with culture.
Due to Amsterdam’s small size, it is easy to get around on foot or by renting a bicycle. To fully experience the culture, you may find it worth traveling on Amsterdam’s beautiful waters via the canal system.
Amsterdam’s culture can be more fully explored by visiting one of the over 60 museums within its compact city limits. Art is easy to come by, from the Van Gogh Museum to the modern art collection found at the Stedelijk Museum. For all those cat lovers out there who can’t get enough of all of the sweet Amsterdam cats, there is a cat museum called De Kattenkabinet (The Cat Cabinet) which is full of only the finest feline art.
Of course, food is an important part of travel in Amsterdam. Be sure to try a fresh stroopwafel, taste Dutch apple pie, and visit the all-organic Noodermarkt on a Saturday during your trip. Make a stop at a local brewery to wash the delicious Amsterdam cuisine down with some beer. Don’t worry – the calories hardly count when you’re busy exploring the city.
If you’d like to go off-the-beaten-path and have a unique experience in Amsterdam, consider hanging out with the locals. You can use an APP like Citysurfing to meet locals that will show you around; invite you to join fun activities; and even offer to teach you arts, crafts, language lessons and more!
You can use Citysurfing to find and book a local city pal or if you prefer, you can also book a traditional tour guide. Having a local guide is a great way to experience a new city without having to figure out how to do it all on your own.
Enjoy your trip to Amsterdam!
