Thanksgiving Day: What is it and how is it celebrated?

Thanksgiving Day, celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November, is the most wonderful day of the year. Christmas songs try to say otherwise but, certainly, there is nothing better than to express gratitude for all that you have in your life, be with your loved ones and eat one of my favorite classic Thanksgiving dishes, the pumpkin pie.

The tradition of Thanksgiving began with the feast that made the pilgrims to celebrate their first harvest in the New World (America) and although the festival is still quintessentially American (Canadian celebrate too, but at a later date), it is very easy to participate if you master the basics with our Thanksgiving guide for beginners in which we will tell you what it is and how it is celebrated:

IT IS THE TURKEY

The turkey should be the center of attention, either roasted, grilled or fried. Note that usually takes several hours to cook, so make sure you start early. When the turkey is in the oven, starting with everything else …

Other things are also important

It’s not the Thanksgiving Day if no filler corn, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce and apple pie with a giant ball of vanilla ice cream on top (here are some classic recipes). Pumpkin pie is a must too and, despite the pumpkin is the main ingredient, is actually a sweet dessert!

HOME MADE BLUEBERRY SAUCE

This part is very easy to do. Add 200 grams of sugar, 200 milliliters of water and 1000 grams of cranberries in a pot and simmer for 10 minutes. Serve cold and impress everyone.

CHRISTMAS MUSIC PON

Thanksgiving Day is the official start of the Christmas season, which means it is completely acceptable to put the album Home for Christmas Dolly Parton and try again memorize The 12 Days of Christmas.

THANKS

The Thanksgiving Day is based on gratitude. In my family the tradition is that everyone at the table to share something last year so be grateful. It is always emotional and unites us all in a very nice way.

Gobble, gobble! And do not forget, finishing the day with a food coma for having eaten so much is a proud tradition in the place that I come!
