History of the New Year

On December 31, we will raise a glass and toast with our loved ones for the beginning of a new year. It is a practice that we learned from birth and practiced systematically. But have you ever wondered why the year has 365 days? The Gregorian reform stems from the need to implement one of the resolutions of the Council of Trent: to adjust the timetable to close the gap produced from a previous council, Nicaea in 325, which had set the time astral in that Easter should be celebrated and, in connection therewith, the other mobile religious holidays. What mattered, then, it was the regularity of the liturgical calendar, for which it was necessary to make certain corrections in the civil. In the background the problem was to adapt the civil calendar year to the tropics.
