When was Democracy Day first held?

The International Day of Democracy was established in 2007 by United Nations, and was first held in 2008. The date was chosen because it was precisely on September 15, 1997 when the world organization of parliaments “IPU” adopted a Declaration Universal Democracy reaffirming its principles and practices and the elements necessary for a democratic government.
