August 23 – International Day for the Abolition of Slavery

The International Day for the Abolition of Slavery, held on August 23, recalls the date on which the General Assembly adopted the Convention for the Suppression of the Traffic in Persons and of the Exploitation of the Prostitution of Others. The day focuses on the eradication of contemporary forms of slavery, such as human trafficking, sexual exploitation, the worst forms of child labor, forced marriage and forced recruitment of children for use in armed conflict.
