Origins of the month of July

July was originally called Quintilis; it was the fifth month in the Roman republican calendar. In fact, it used to have 36 days but Romulus changed it to 31 and to 30 some years later. Numa Numa Pompilius was the second king of Rome, succeeding Romulus. Romulus was the founder of Rome.
