The Emancipation Proclamation, in its written form, gave freedom to slaves in the southern states of the United States. Despite this fact, many owners did not respect it and was officially ignored by some Confederate states. Consequently nearly 800,000 African Americans weren’t freed from slavery. It took a Civil War and the implementation and adoption of the Thirteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution to have the abolition of slavery more or less complete.
